Russell’s Transition Management Services Awarded Top Industry Honours

SYDNEY, 21 May 2009 - Russell Investments’ transition management team has been recognised by industry-leading publications for its global capabilities, concentration on risk management and continued high levels of client-focused performance and service. The transition management team received top rankings in the annual surveys conducted by PLANSPONSOR and Global Investor magazines and was named Transition Management Provider of the Year at Professional Pension’s 2009 U.K. Pensions Awards.

“This third-party recognition is meaningful because it acknowledges and raises awareness of the strong capabilities and service levels Russell provides to clients on complex, intricate transition projects involving multiple managers,” said David Rothenberg, managing director, Russell Investments.

Russell was ranked “Best in Class” by investment managers in all categories of PLANSPONSOR’s 2009 transition management survey, including pre-trade, execution, post-trade and organisation/support. “We remain completely satisfied with their services in every respect,” was a common sentiment of surveyed managers, according to PLANSPONSOR’s May 2009 issue.

For the fifth consecutive year, Russell was named one of the top firms in Global Investor’s transition management survey. Russell ranked in the top five in every regional and service category and also achieved a top-five ranking overall.

The U.K. Pensions Awards, presented by Professional Pensions, recognized the leaders in the corporate pensions industry in 28 award categories. A panel of judges named Russell Transition Management Provider of the Year based on the company’s high level of performance and innovation, its quality communication practices and service standards, and the overall benefits it provides to clients.

“Receiving these awards is an incredible testament to Russell’s transition management efforts on a global scale,” said John R. Moore, director investor services - Australasia, Russell Investments. “The honour affirms Russell’s continued strength in implementation services and acknowledges the strategic, client-focused work in which we excel.”

For more than 25 years, Russell has led the way in improving transition management practises and strategies to help clients’ maximise their assets. Russell also developed the widely-used T Standard as an objective tool that allows investors to measure the performance of their portfolio in transition.

Russell’s transition management services team operates within the Russell Implementation Services division and transitioned more than $735 billion in assets in 2008. The Russell team offers clients access to a global, multi-venue trading platform and agency expertise in specialist equity, fixed income, currency and futures teams. Across all global asset classes, Russell’s focus on dynamic access to liquidity has shown to be particularly adept at evolving with the changing market environment.
