Federal Budget 2009
In contrast to the 2008 Labour Budget, the 2009 Budget announced substantial changes to superannuation taxation, amidst a huge $58bn projected deficit in the new financial year.
Key changes include:
- Reduced limits on Concessional contributions
- Temporary reductions in co-contributions
- Extension of the minimum payment relief for account-based pensions
These changes are made without substantially altering the value of superannuation as an effective way of saving for retirement income.
