Introducing Core Plus

Leading Edge: The Canadian fixed income landscape is evolving, and Core Plus offers leading edge fixed income strategies.

Increased Return Potential: Core Plus enables investors to take advantage of non-core fixed income sectors, such as high yield, currency and emerging markets debt securities. These additional investment products offer the potential for higher levels of excess returns versus traditional fixed income. With the expectation of higher returns, at times, can come higher risk.

Enhanced Diversification: These non-core fixed income sectors have a low correlation with traditional fixed income securities. This adds diversification to a bond portfolio and may improve its performance.

Greater Access to Foreign Markets: Gaining fixed income exposure in foreign markets that have differenct fiscal and/or monetary policies than Canada may drive different results than a domestic bond portfolio.

Tax Efficiency - Through the new corporate class version.

Key Benefits

  • Provides an effective complement to a balanced portfolio, by seeking increased  performance of the fixed income segment of the portfolio while not significantly increasing the total risk.
  • Increased diversification, due to a wider opportunity set, lower associated correlations, and less reliance on duration.
  • Fixed income securities of non-Canadian issuers
  • Active bond sub-advisers in the Pool have the ability to add value where they see attractive opportunities.
  • Seeks higher excess return potential than a typical fixed income strategy.

The Pool is Suitable for Investors Who

  • Have a low tolerance for risk and a medium to long-term time horizon.
  • Seek a higher level of fixed income return potential, contributing to the fixed income component of a diversified portfolio.
  • Want to receive interest income in their portfolio.
