For students and interns in particular, this area offers many excellent reasons for it to become your next favorite place to be. Outdoor adventure Working at Russell's Seattle headquarters means some of the world's finest outdoor activities are at your doorstep. Whether its hiking, climbing, skiing or mountain biking in the nearby Cascade or Olympic Mountains; boating, whale watching or fishing on the Puget Sound; or enjoying the scenic beauty of two National Parks within two hours' drive, the Pacific Northwest is unparalleled for outdoor adventure opportunities. Music, theater and festivals With more than 80 live music clubs and 29 professional theater companies, the greater Seattle region is second only to New York in per capita live performances held in the country each year. There are dance clubs, DJs and nightlife to suit every personality, and copious festivals and fairs. The Bumbershoot arts and music weekend is North America's largest urban arts festival. Art, galleries and museums The number of museums and galleries in the Seattle region could keep you busy for a lifetime. Galleries and museums in many parts of the region host free public art walks each month, and are a great way to spend a day. Be sure to check out the Experience Music Project, where the hands-on history of rock and roll comes alive. The Frank Gehry-designed building is just as stimulating as what's inside. Sports and recreation Seattle offers numerous opportunities throughout the year to enjoy professional sporting events, or to participate in your favorite sport. The Seattle Mariners host Major League Baseball games in beautiful Safeco Field, located in downtown Seattle, offering views of the mountains and the nearby Puget Sound. Next door is Qwest Field, home of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The Seattle Storm (WNBA) play at the Key Arena near the Seattle Center. Seattle also has a professional soccer and a semi-pro hockey team. In addition, the Seattle area has some of the best, and most plentiful, public parks in America, including nearby 720-acre Point Defiance Park, all of which offer numerous recreational opportunities. Transportation Russell provides all interns with a free bus pass that's good for travel throughout both Pierce and King Counties. King County Metro and Pierce Transit list routes and schedules. Sound Transit provides commuter rail service between Seattle and Tacoma and around the Puget Sound region. Sea-Tac International Airport offers non-stop flights to many international and domestic cities, and Amtrak Cascades travels regularly to many Pacific Northwest destinations.
