Meet our interns

Exposure to world-class talent
As a Russell intern, Willamette University graduate Ashleigh Williams worked in investment management with the U.S. equity team. The best part of her internship at Russell? Getting to attend manager meetings. Not many college students get the opportunity to meet with some of the most talented money managers in the world. Ashleigh said that these meetings provided her with industry knowledge that far exceeds anything she could have obtained by working with a single money manager. The primary reason the internship was so successful for Ashleigh is that she worked hard to ask plenty of questions, find ways to add value and exceed the expectations of her team.
A real-world business environment
Willson Deng comes to Russell from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studies industrial engineering and operations research. He assists the capital markets research department in everything from testing algorithms used for building indexes to writing research reports on high-yield investment strategies. In addition to his involvement in meaningful projects, Deng values the people he works with every day. "The benefits I have received from this internship are absolutely amazing," he says. "The people I work with are brilliant. All my managers have PhDs. Not only do I get to network with the brightest minds in investing, but I've learned more in three weeks here at Russell than I did in a semester's worth of material in an engineering economics class."
Helping Russell grow
University of Washington student Darrah Christel splits her internship time at Russell between corporate marketing and our U.S. institutional business. Each day, says Darrah, I'm assigned to projects that help Russell grow. Her regular exposure to fund charts, sales tracking, competitor research, and corporate-level advertising shows the kind of resume-enhancing education that rarely comes in the classroom. Darrah has learned the importance of asking questions, and the answers that come from some of the top minds of the industry are helping her to grow as well. Is it hard work? Absolutely, says Darrah. You're expected to complete the tasks set in front of you to the best of your ability, and then some. A little stretching is what growth is all about.
