Craig began with Russell in Australia in 1990 as a consultant before establishing the Russell NZ office as Managing Director in 1992. In this role he was responsible for client relationships, for developing new ventures and enhancing the range of Russell services available to New Zealand clients.
In 2002 Craig became Director of Consulting Practice for Australasia where he managed the development of investment content supplied to instituitional and retail clients through the region. Craig retired from this role in August 2008 and is now a part-time Consultant working on research and special projects for our institutional clients.
Prior to joining Russell, Craig pursued an academic career. From 1988 to 1992, he was a professor in the Accounting and Finance Department at the University of Auckland, and from 1986 to 1988 was a professor at the Australian Graduate School of Management. Craig was a faculty member in the Statistics and Econometrics group at the Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago, from 1977 to 1986, and became a tenured professor in 1985. Before teaching at the University of Chicago, he was an assistant professor of Actuarial Science at the University of Michigan. Craig won the Sir Joseph Burns prize for the top qualifying Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1972, and was the State Farm Doctoral Fellow in 1975/76.
Craig worked as a consulting actuary with Lane Clark and Peacock in London in 1973, and with John Eriksen and Company in New Zealand from 1970 to 1972.
Craig has published widely in statistics and econometrics, and has presented many papers based on his original research at symposiums and conferences. He was an associate editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association for several years. He has extensive consulting experience in the U.S. and New Zealand.
Craig has served on the Board of Trustees of the National Provident Fund and on the boards of a number of companies in the financial sector in Auckland.
