Russell Hires Government Relations Expert
Akiyama brings top-notch public affairs credentials

Tacoma, WA — January 18, 2008 — Russell Investments has hired Patricia Akiyama to fill the position of Government and Community Relations Director. She joins Russell after serving in similar roles for Quadrant Homes and Weyerhaeuser Company.

At Russell, Akiyama will focus on business strategy related to legislative issues, relationship management and issue management involving local and national lawmakers, administrative agencies, industry associations as well as civic and community leaders and associations.

"Patricia is a seasoned public affairs professional with proven leadership in major corporations and senior levels of federal, state and local government," said Hal Strong, Russell's Chief Operating Officer. "She brings a wealth of experience and ability to this pivotal role that will help us steer through an ever-changing and increasingly complex set of government issues."

Among other career highlights, Akiyama served as chief of staff for U.S. Senator Patty Murray for four years in the late 1990s.

Akiyama, who began work for Russell on January 14, is based in the firm's headquarters building in Tacoma.
